IT’S TIME TO REIMAGINE, RECREATE AND RESTORE
The scent of the first rains, the dense and humid rainforests, lush greens, the feel of the clean breeze on your skin — the grandeur of nature is an extravaganza. Preserving it is our responsibility. It should be a spectacle for the generations that are yet to see the earth’s wonders.
I remember a time when I used to walk home after school. On the roadside was a plot with tall trees that stood up with pride. I used to look up and see the nests of birds on the branches. It always felt cozy to walk in their shadows. But, today, I looked across the road from my house. I couldn’t spot a single tree. Instead, I saw barren land that was very dry. I tried to recollect the pleased relief I used to have when I looked at those green leaves. But, it was long gone. The sight I saw ached my eyes. This is not a singular experience. People all over the world miss the coziness and comfort of greenery.
Today is June 5th, World Environment Day. We celebrate every environment day by planting a tree, making posters and sharing them on social media. But, we do not think about protecting our planet the next day or any other day. We have ignored the consequences of our actions for a very long time. How long before the other inhabitants of this planet turn against us for destroying their world? Today, we see the harm that a small virus can do to us. Isn’t nature trying to preserve itself by forcing us to stay inside our homes? Isn’t this epidemic a sign for us to change our habits and make this world better again? Well, it’s time for us to change.
The theme we celebrate this year for world environment day is of broad significance — “REIMAGINE. RECREATE. RESTORE.” It’s time for us to reimagine the possible. It’s time to recreate what we have taken from our planet. It’s time to restore our resources so that we can live in a better world where our future generations will have a chance to survive. Remember. It’s not too late. Bring changes in your lifestyle so that we can make our environment more sustainable.
